Opening Day Majin style

A lot of stuff to report on about Opening Day 2001, so here we go...

I went to the park with fellow GTTP member and neighbor Alex Parks - we arrived at the Marina gate at about 9:20am, and as luck would have it, we happened to be right behind Red Garter Rob (preparing for his first Red Garter beer of the year) in line. So we talked to Rob a little as we waited, and finally they opened the gates at about 9:57. We had regular tickets and not season passes (didnt want to wait in line), so we got to go ahead of most of the people and dash to MF. The dash paid off, as we got the 5th train of the season! After that we hit Mantis --- saw RG Rob once again in the front row of the first train of the season. We then headed back to Mean Streak and had a walk on and an overall OK ride. After we got off and were walking back towards Gemini, we realized that we were actually on the same MS train as LuvRaptor, Hooper, and Jeffrey Spartan (I should have said hi guys, my bad). Hit Gemini a few times after that - man that blue train is really blazing! Magnum ejector seat was next, and I accidently stapled myself resulting in some aching thighs... PT space shot was next on the agenda, and then we headed back to Magnum for the supposed 1pm meeting. We waited, but didnt see GTTPers so we headed back to Gemini again, a few rides on CCMR, and then the Force again. Waited 1 1/2 hours for MF, then headed to the front for Raptor. Unfortunately, it was broken down, but we decided to wait anyways. After I took a fairly long survey for Guest Relations, it was back up, and we waited about 10 min. for the front row (COLD!!). On our way to DT we saw RG Rob again, then rode DT (is it just me or did they turn off like half the lights this year?). Next we took the train to MS for another ride, CCMR, and then a final ride on MF. It too was broken down, but we waited about 10 min and it was back up. Waited 50 min total and saw Magnum Is Sinking and 2Hostyl in line - good to meet them. After MF it was just about 8 so we left.

Some side notes:
- I went there with the goal of redeeming my season pass sometime during the day, but we never had the chance to (especially with the length of the line).
- MF was switching trains the entire day - from blue and yellow to all 3 to yellow and red to all 3 again and so on.
- Raptor was down for a long time... not exactly sure why (computer?)
- The Magnum trains look great after receiving a little facelift, as does Raptor after being painted.
- Alex's brother got stuck for an hour on ID, so he got a front of the line pass which we, sadly, never got to use :(
- Lighthouse Point still has a little ways to go (pool, etc.) but it did look nice.
- It was a very brisk and windy day... the wind could be felt especially on Magnum's second hill and MF's third hill.

whew! I hope to get back there soon!

Regarding season passes ...

Yesterday's Register had a photo of the season pass line. The caption said park officials encouraged some to buy a one-day ticket, which would be credited towards the season pass at a later date.
