Millennium Mania, Fourth Day

The 13th was another stellar evening, my third Millennium Mania event. The evening started with the MF special access gate open so one could walk through from the exit platform back to entrance, but that didn’t last long. Although there was a steadily increasing number of people riding MF all evening, the line was still reasonable unless you wanted the front seat. Elsewhere in the park, the Raptor and Magnum were delivering rerides most of the evening. I achieved 10 contiguous Magnum rides, a total of 19 Raptor rides, and I lost count on MF somewhere after 12.

I did observe a very interesting phenomenon on MF. Just after sunset, I boarded a train and ascended the lift hill. At the top, I noticed that I was high enough to see the sun over the horizon. As the train descended, the sun set again, only to rise again briefly as we crested the third hill. In effect, I saw the same beautiful sunset three times that evening. What a gift. Thank you Cedar Point!
It’s amazing how you get spoiled by the short lines. I rode MF 4 or 5 times last night and decided that the lines where too long (compared to what they where last Thursday)! Like 10 minutes is long compared to the lines during the summer. So I spent most of the night riding magnum where I rarely had to get out of my seat.
Not only was the sunset on MF gorgeous, but so was watching the moon rise on Magnum.

Day 4 was a picture perfect day. Well worth the 4 hour (round trip) drive and the $19 it cost for admission. Several upper-level management people (Hildebrandt and the V-P of Park Operations) were hanging around MF for part of the night--I don't ever personally recall running into any of them prior to yesterday. The only line I had to wait in all night was for 1-1 on MF. Several times it felt like my roommate and I were the only people in the entire park, with nary another soul in sight. Rerides were common, and I couldn't believe how dead Magnum was at around 9:30.

I encourage anyone who got a survey while exiting the park to return it if you liked Millennium Mania. Though I have absolutely no justification for this, it would appear CP is losing money hand over fist this year with this event, and only a great number of positive responses may encourage the park to attempt it again next year (again, another comment with absolutely no justification). I further encourage everyone to go to their web site and send them a positive comment to supplement the survey.

I've been thoroughly delighted (and spoiled!) by last night. Not even a weekday in May will be the same anymore!

RugMuncher - I’ll be up there Friday (tonight) with a couple of friends. I’ll be going for at least a couple of the Halloweekends Fridays as well. I’m sure you’ll see me and Raptor Man Dave power riding on that great bird of prey who rules the skies over Cedar point. Be sure to say “Hi”!

It was an incredible night. A great sunset, followed by the full moon made it pretty unforgetable. It was good to meet Gregleg and Hothitz to finish out the night - the last train was especially cool with the rythmic clapping followed by the cheer up the lift and ending with the infamous "one more ride" chant. I'll be back on closing day, but after this, it's sure to be a letdown.
Yeah, given how late it was, that last train had a LOT of energy, didn't it? :)

I had a GREAT time that day (14 MF laps, 10 Magnum laps, 8 Raptor laps, along with 2 Mantis laps and one Power Tower up and one Power Tower down, and I wasn't even TRYING to power ride). In spite of my earlier comment about not liking excluding season passholders (and having to drive solo back to Pittsburgh afterwards ;)), I think this event was a very good idea. Letting the season passholders in would have just spoiled the occasion -- all the tickets would have vanished immediately.
