December 21, 2000

Causeway toll: 50 cents (Refundable with food purchase at Bay Harbor)
Fine dinner at Bay Harbor Inn: $74.07, with gratuity (two diners)
Surreal digital pictures of a sleeping Cedar point: a half hour in the freezing cold
An evening of laughter and gaiety: priceless

The park was illuminated in grand fashion for my 38th trip of the year on the evening of December21, 2000 (thirty nine if you consider a reconnoiter in March). Millennium Force, the Giant wheel, Magnum, and the Blue Streak were all clearly visible from Battery Park, both at dusk and after dark. Raptor was also illuminated, though the best view for it (and Millennium Force) was from the marina parking lot.

Dinner at Bay Harbor Inn was spectacular in terms of food and service. There was even a live cello soloist playing, though I won’t dwell on that.

We did it! If you’re considering such an adventure, don’t wait any longer. The park will undoubtedly go dark after the holidays, and while the food will still be good, the view won’t be as cheery.

I wish I could go every night.
