Power Tower Dispute

This is how the story goes

My mom is a saftey freak anyways, what happened in SFKK with Superman, my mom freaked out and will not let me go on Power Tower She will probably never understand the difference with S&S rides and Intamin Drop Towers.

But tommorow is different, she is finally letting me for the first time (weird) but what side is the best to ride it and why. (I love my rhyming skillz

Re: Power Tower Dispute

Your mom has nothing to worry about. The Superman ride was a different manufacturer and after the accident, Cedar Fair shut down all of their Drop Tower rides. A full inspection was conducted and the rides were reopened.

I'm not exactly sure what your question is. But I'm glad you'll be able to enjoy Power Tower on this visit.

Re: Power Tower Dispute

^^Minus that last sentence... the drop tower at SFKK is a separate type from Power Tower. (I believe Superman is Intamin-designed, whereas Power Tower is manufactured by S&S Power.) I'm by no means an expert on this, but I believe the SFKK accident happened because of a cable snap; Power Tower uses pneumatics (hydraulics?) via pistons.

Someone else around here would be able to better explain it...

Re: Power Tower Dispute

It uses pneumatics, which is air. The mechanisms are attached to cables which actually move the ride cars. So, there are cables on PT.

As for the question of which is better, they are two different experiences. On WT, you are allowed to free fall, accelerating at 9.8 m/s/s towards the ground, similar to Demon Drop. Power Tower on the other hand, pulls you down faster than gravity. It is more like you are being launched toward the ground.

Re: Power Tower Dispute

Sorry bout the question, kinda weird. I knew about the differences about the towers and I've been trying to explain them to my mom (which is still hard to convince her). I also knew EXACTLY what happened on the ride and how, but, my mom STILL didn't believe me. Back to the topic, which side would you reccomend on Power Tower and why ?

Re: Power Tower Dispute

If you have the chance, why not ride both sides of the tower, and see which you like better. We could tell you which is better, but it's all a matter of opinion. Either way, enjoy your ride, and your trip to CP!

Re: Power Tower Dispute

I agree with Mark... I personally prefer the drop side (blue), but you will definitely find a shorter line on the shot side (red). Definitely ride them both if you get the chance!

I will not be riding Power Tower again after my incident on it.

RIDE ON!

Re: Power Tower Dispute

I've been up here in Sandusky for 4 days now but not yet been on Power Tower. I'll go on both I guess because both have very short lines this week

Still, which side gives you a greater intensity feeling and which one gives you a greater excitement feeling?

Re: Power Tower Dispute

I don't think there is a definitive answer there. Its a matter of opinion...ours could be completely opposite of yours. Just ride them both!

Re: Power Tower Dispute

If you ask me, the blue/green side is way better than red.
The ride up to the top is slow and relaxing. When you reach the top, you're treated to a nice view for what seems like forever. The anticipation builds when you have no idea when you're going to drop.

On the ride side, you're just launched up quickly, then lowered back down - pretty boring.

I think most people would agree.

Re: Power Tower Dispute

If I had to choose, I would go with the side that drops you, for the same reasons that lukejeff13 mentioned.

Can we stay on for another ride? 6 more days.

RIDE ON!

Re: Power Tower Dispute

The shoot up side has a nice view of the lake on
the corkscrew side. I still have to grab on at the
top, its a goal of mine to start off no handed, and
end no handed, still hasn't happened.
I don't like getting an inside position on either
up or down, all you see are the other towers.
I like shorter waits, so I go on shoot up 3 out of
4 times riding it.
(I prefer demon drop over Power Tower - It's a better
free fall feeling) I know no one else likes DD.

Hello - 2009
(If I am lucky I'll get 1 visit in '08)

Re: Power Tower Dispute

Just ride both sides. The red side (shoot up) is usually a walk on. The blue side (shoot down) is usually a 5-15 min wait.

Thanks for the correction. It's been a long week.

Re: Power Tower Dispute

You have your colors backwards.

Red = shoot up (typically a shorter line)
Teal = shoot down (typically a longer line)

Re: Power Tower Dispute

Like nulemoni said, ride both sides to see what you like better. That's what I did when I first went on it and I still can't make up my mind to this day.

Re: Power Tower Dispute

Thanks I'm heading to again to CP in about 30min. and I'll try both just to see what I like. I'll probably like the drop side better but with the launch waits

As for the original question, I like the green side better too, but again the lines are usually short so I'd do both. As for liking Demon Drop... I love it! The feeling I get during that drop is the best. It's a must-ride whenever I go.
