Re: Camp Grounds

Bayshore Campground, less than a mile from the end of the causeway.

I haven't stayed there since they became branded with the "KOA", and I know there's some new management there, but I've always had good experiences with them, and yes - they allow tent camping.

Re: Camp Grounds

I stayed at Bayshore opening weekend, and you could tell there was some frustration with the new KOA stuff among the employees, but it was still a very nice place to stay.

Re: Camp Grounds

The same people still own Bayshore but they decided to join KOA for advertising reasons. And yes, they are a little frustrated with how KOA does things after so many years doing it the way they wanted.

Re: Camp Grounds

Just make sure to bring your own drinking water.
The water at bayshore wasn't the best tasting in the world.
That opening weekend was quite a trip.
Nothing stopped us though, not a deer, not a lost wallet.
In fact I don't even know why I stopped when I hit
the deer. I should have floored it and turned on the
windshield wipers to wipe the blood and guts off,
continued on my way.

Re: Camp Grounds

^ - I always bring my own water. It is a mixture of barley, hops, water and yeast that has been allowed to "age" for a period of time, filtered and then put into bottles for individual consumption.

Re: Camp Grounds

Re: Camp Grounds

After the first night you are used to it. Since staying there so often, we don't even hear it the first night anymore.

Re: Camp Grounds

Between Bayshore and Maples, those are my favorite places to stay in Sandusky.

The CP properties are nice, too - but since it's so close to home, when I stay, I'm there as much for the social and relaxing aspect as I am the park, so I figure the places around the corner with some other things to do are a welcome change.

Also, hops-water is my favorite kind.. :-D
