No more themed trash cans?

I'm probably really late with this observation.....

Anyone else remember when the trash can graphics were themed to the area of the park? Each area had its own graphic, be it the Blue Streak, the Giant Wheel(?), the Gemini, the Corkscrew, or White Water Landing...

Does anyone know when they ditched that for simply one generic one?

Re: No more themed trash cans?

Probably about the same time they adopted the new Cedar Fair logo.

I suppose you are thinking about this because you saw the dumpster full of trash cans in the employee area between the Stockade and the railroad track (visible from the train)?

Re: No more themed trash cans?

When I started going in 1999, there were only 2 trash can styles: the blue Cedar Point coaster logos (still there) and brown stickers with a stylized CP in the middle and "Frontier Town" across the top. Those disapeared sometime between 2003-2006.

Re: No more themed trash cans?

Actually, I didn't see that... do they have some of the ones with the old graphics in there? I'd love to see them again. I was just at the park on Tuesday and my friend made some comment about the logo and I mistakenly told him they were themed to each area of the park (and later realized they weren't anymore).

I live in California and won't be back anytime soon... if there are cans with the old graphics, can someone try to snap some pics? Thanks!!

Re: No more themed trash cans?

Reminds me of when the parking lot was themed to the rides as well...

Re: No more themed trash cans?

Last time I saw a Frontier Town trash can was under the Millennium Force station while riding the train, which was last season.

Re: No more themed trash cans?

I can remember the trash cans having images of Gemini, Corkscrew,
and Giant Wheel on them. The trash can in the back of the park had
a Frontier Town graphic, and the ones on the Main Midway sported the old
Amazement Park logo. I believe these all got changed to the current
graphic about 1996, a year after the park came out with the new Cedar Point logo.

Re: No more themed trash cans?

I was at Knott's Berry Farm a couple weekends ago... they have an area called Ghost Town that reminds me of Frontier Trail/Town (take 3 parts Frontier Trail and 1 part Greenfield Village).

Anyway, the trashcans throughout their old west mining town area were shaped like barrels, and I thought that was pretty cool.

^^^ The Frontier Town trash can was still under the Millennium Force station when I rode the CP&LE RR Monday.

Re: No more themed trash cans?

You can see the Giant Wheel trash cans in this 1985 brochure:

And here is an Amazement Park can in this 1993 photo:

Re: No more themed trash cans?

The themed cans were back when the rides on them were the big rides in the area, like Giant Wheel and Gemini...to keep up they would have to change them to Millenium and Dragster and what not. The only trash can I'd like to see changed is the Halloweekends can to change to Frontier Town, but that's just a personal bias, haha.

Re: No more themed trash cans?

There's a can in the parking lot of the building at the corner of Cedar Point Dr and 1st. Almost looks like corkscrew. Anyone know what that's for/from?
