two questions...

1. I will be comming a day early to get housing before i process in (this saturday) and was wondering where i needed to go.

2. my father in-law was wondering how much of a discount do we get on tickets after the 4 free ones? and are you able to get discounted tickets anytime or just after you recieve your free ones?

To answer your questions,

1.) If you plan on arriving and checking into housing the day before your process in date you must do so after 5pm, and report to the check in desk of the building/complex you want to live in. (In commons, just enter with your papers, and go to the desk, and they'll take care of you there.)

2.) After you get the 4 free tickets after 28 days of employment, there are no longer any additional discounts for employee tickets. If you need discounted tickets, it is recommended to purchase them at Meijer, DrugMart, use a Pepsi Can, etc. As far as I can remember they got rid of the extra employee discount tickets following the 2006 season.

I also will be there Saturday with you. Commons housing office/store is right in front of you when you enter the gate located in the center of the prison.... I mean complex. I am just wondering if its the same for bayside. Guess I will wing it.

Discounted tickets run about the same price as if he got them at Meijers up the road. You save a couple bucks.

I thought you could check in 24 hours before you process in. I process in on Friday May 9th. I was planning on coming up on thursday the 8th around 12noon. Are they going to let me get a room or am I going to have to wait until 5? I was wanting to get there and unpack so I could settle in and relax the rest of the day so I am able to get up early on friday and beat the rush of people processing in.

The idea is that you are to arrive on the day you are scheduled for processing, and not before then. You're encouraged to arrive as early in the day as possible on that scheduled day. What happens is that sometimes people cannot arrive on their processing day until after HR has closed, and as a result, housing is able to make temporary accommodations for these people until you are able to completely process in the next morning. This is not designed as a method to allow you to arrive an additional day early, prior to your processing day.

If you arrive before your processing day, such as noon the day before you're scheduled to process in, you'll be sent to HR. HR will then contact your department or division and ask if they may process you in. Sometimes your department will agree, sometimes they will not. If they do, you'll wind up processing in early, and perhaps even be starting work the next day, the day you were scheduled to process-in. If they do not approve, you will be SOL... and hotel rooms in Sandusky generally aren't cheap.

Yeah that is exactly why i am getting up at 5:30 on sunday morning to hopefully beat a good amount of the rush that is coming in.

I have to be out of the place that I am staying on the 8th, I am suppose to process in on the 9th. I was hoping to beable to leave out of here first thing in the morning and head up there. I will have to stay in a hotel here if I am not able to check into housing there or stay in a hotel up there. I guess I would be better off by calling them to find out what I should do. I would rather be able to just check in there so I don't have to worry about checking into housing after dealing with processing. I will just call them tomorrow and find out what they would recommend me doing. They have final say anyways.

I understand the position you're in with having to be moved out, but what I don't understand is why you should be an exception? Nearly everyone else does their housing after being processed in. And those that don't, fall under the case I explained above. If you check JobNet, you'll notice that it even explains housing as the last step of processing in. You'll also note that the information included with your employment packet states that, "employees may check into housing no sooner than 24 hours before their first day of work." The day you process in is not considered a work day. The day your contract starts is considered your first day of work. This rule is meant to cover the day before you start work, which would be your processing in day.

That is where I made the mistake at. I was under the impression that you could come up 24 hours before you process in, not 24 hours before you start working. I dont work until 5pm on sat, so does that mean that I can't check in until 5pm on thurs after i get finshed processing in? Like I said, from infomation that I had recieve in other topics on here, I was under the impression that you could check in to housing if you wanted 24 hours before processing in. And because of that, I worked out a deal with my landlord to be able to stay a week. I guess I am just going to have to work out other plans then.

That kinda sucks because I too planed on coming down Saturday because I misread the part of 24 hours prior first day of work. Really do not want to be driving at 5 in the morning AGAIN and would like to have had the time to settle in. Maybe I can suck up to my TL and ATL now and be like "Can I come at around 3 or so Monday". But then again I do not want to get on Ryan's bad side this soon.

I was able to check into housing the night before I was scheduled to process in, they didn't even question it at all. I just said I would be processing in the next day and they were alright with it. Well that was last summer anyway

Yeah my contract dates got messed up originally and I was going to come in a day early and I was told it wouldn't be a problem. But then I got my dates changed so it doesn't even matter anymore.

They can't reject you if you come the day before you process in. You just have to process in first thing next morning.

I believe this confirms this somewhere on the Cedar Point job page, but don't take my word for it.

So for the most part, coming down early is not going to really be a problem except for a few situations.

If you are scheduled to process in on the 4th, you are scheduled to process in on the 4th. This is "mass-process in day" and begins training week. If you are planning on coming super early on the 3rd to get housing, its not going to happen, seeing as hundreds of people will be processing in, so no one should get a unfair advantage. For those who cannot get to Sandusky on the 4th to process in correctly and need to stay the night on the 3rd, would need to check into housing Saturday evening, evening meaning after HR closes for the day. They aren't going to make any special exceptions for this weekend to process in early, seeing as no one is really "needed" for work until Monday.

During the operating season, however, the case differs, if you happen to arrive the day before your scheduled date, it is up to your department to decide if HR is allowed to process you in. Most likely, throughout the summer, staffing is needed, so I wouldn't expect a huge problem if you need to come a day early. Remember, calling your hiring manager or HR can get these questions easily straightened out so you don't have to worry.

The coming early and checking into housing thing is really a privilege for people who live far away and can't make it in time for HR on their process date. It really isn't a way to "get an early start" on housing. HR would prefer that complete processing in via their directions, which means going in order with all your forms, housing being the last stop, as by checking in early it makes it difficult for all the paperwork to get to the right place. So if you really can't feasibly get to HR by around 4 on your process in date, then perhaps coming a day early is what you need. But if you live close enough where getting to HR in the morning or afternoon wouldn't be a problem, it's best to just process in following the regular steps.

Are hotels in Sandusky really that expensive? I was telling my parents that I needed to be there at 8:30 am on Sunday and my dad's response was to go out there Saturday and just get a hotel. (I'm about 2 hours away). Not sure if we're going to do that, but I was just curious as I keep reading people say "hotels aren't cheap".

Yeah I live 9-10 hours away, and I had the wrong date on my contract, meaning I couldn't be there to help train the day before we open. That's why I was going to come a day early. Like I said though, it all got worked out anyway.

They're all over the board really. And it depends if you want something of quality, or just the most dirt cheap thing you can find. It being early in the season will also keep the prices a little lower.
