Re: Working in Games??

Well I was just wondering what to expect and what it was like. I had my phone interview today and they hired me and I start on the 10th. Any information would be great! =]

Re: Working in Games??

Expect a mixture of a lot of long days, and short days, with some split shifts. You'll be moved around alot, within your zone, for the most part. On your contract will probably list a certain game, but you'll be all over the first place.

Re: Working in Games??

When did you find time in your RipCord schedule to work games?

And that describes a lot of different jobs in the park, like ride ops for example.

Re: Working in Games??

Not really, games and rides are totally different.

My best friend who I brought up with me in 2006 was a games host. Thats how I know the ins and outs of it.

Behind the games is a small hallway, with very small doors that leads you into each game section. You also have your own lockers. And make sure to bring water, you'll be speaking the entire time you're there, as you're supposed to. And you can't lean on anything. If you don't have any players, you have to speak to people via the mic to persuade them to come over and play and/or "straighten" up the game, keeping it neat.

And be sure to use the one ring to rule them all.

Re: Working in Games??

I love games!!!!!!

But seriously, games is the best department in the park. We're very different from other departments and we're all pretty close. You have to be outgoing and willing to call out to people. If you want lots of hours or the opportunity for a promotion you have to work hard at your game and be enthusiastic.

Were you told what game or area you would be in?

Re: Working in Games??

Are there any guidelines for games hosts while spieling to folks walking by? I understand the need to attract players, but last year a few games hosts would frequently become insulting or snide, mocking people. (ie, making jokes about a tall guy and a short girl.) I'm all for funny and creative spiels, but is anything out of bounds?

Re: Working in Games??

I would imagine profanity is out of bounds.

My favorite thing to do in the world (or at least in the park) is flash my CP badge at obnoxious games employees who feel that it's necessary to scream through a microphone 3 feet from my face. It's like letting the air out of a balloon.

Re: Working in Games??

A few years ago I definitely heard a guy on Hi Striker say over the microphone, "come play Hi Striker. The only place in the park where you can whack something and not get in trouble for it." Something tells me that line would be frowned upon, but I thought it was hilarious.

Re: Working in Games??

LOL, that line is funny. But, it's not the only place, what about "Whack-A-Mole"?
