Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

With such a wild winter as far as storms go, and another major storm hitting tomorrow I'm getting a bit worried. I'm no construction expert but with only two months remaining there is still only dirt at the Planet Snoopy site. This weather certainly doesn't help by all means. I know its no coaster which takes much longer to construct but two months just seems like no time at all when you consider the park has been closed since October.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

i agree with you i was thinking that today but Cedar point will do it somehow they will have like 1,000,000 people working on it just to finish it for opening day if not doesnt effect me all that much haha............

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

That is what I am wondering too. I haven't seen a ride made in Planet Snoopy. Are they going to lift the cable line that fell down on the Sky Ride?

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

The majority of Planet Snoopy is concrete [insert concrete jungle joke here]. The rest is electrical and plumbing (already done I believe), a couple small structures (doesn't take very long), and the rides (all prebuilt; carnivals pull this off every week).

I would not concerned.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

^I agree. Once the weather straightens out a bit, I think we will see quite a bit of grading and concrete pouring. After that, everything will go pretty quickly. With the other indoor upgrades going on, it makes more sense to wait for better weather for Planet Snoopy construction while crews are doing all the indoor work now.

^^Actually, it may just be me, but it looks like (via midwaycam) they've had Skyscaper up for a little while now.

Speaking of funcam, does anyone get to view it? They updated the site, again, and it won't show up on my computer, even when I click on the cam at the bottom right corner. just wondering.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

Were any of the P.S. rides built by Intamin? That could be the biggest prediction factor on whether they will be open or not.

^ - its hard to tell. I see the pole you are talking about, but I'm not sure that is Skyscraper or something else. I wish Sandusky would get better weather so we could see this stuff.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

If that is Skyscraper, it has been up for a LONG time, because I've got some old pictures from the webcam that show it. I just looked at one from November 2007 and it was there...so I'm guessing that is not Skyscraper!

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

Well, I don't remember ripcord being that tall, and if it's not skyscraper, then what do you think it is?

I do know what tower you are talking about, however. It is over by magnum, but I still have no clue.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

I can't see it right now, but the water tower is blue.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

I think what you guys are looking at is the arch of Rip Cord and to the right of that, the radio tower attached to the Coliseum.

I am guessing you are looking at the webcam on Sky Ride? If so then what I said above should make sense.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

Even if it is not done by opening day, it will not be such a big deal. It's not like hundreds of people are coming opening weekend to visit Planet Snoopy.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

I will be! This will be my first visit in 2 years, and I'm really looking forward to taking my 3 year old there! We will be there on May 10th rain or shine. My wife is looking forward to taking our 1 year old there and trying out the "private areas to feed" and the restaurant for kids. Long live Snoopy!

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

So, unless they're messing with us, Skyscraper is currently on the back burner, staying all nice and toasty until they decide to put 'er in. Kinda like how they're waiting to get PS done.

Okay? Good!

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

I really don't think they're putting anything off. Both areas don't require much work. I'm guessing once the weather is a little more reliable, foundations will start appearing for both areas. The majority of the work will take place very quickly. You have to remember that Maverick's steel construction started in late July and ended in mid October. Planet Snoopy is a much, much smaller project.

Re: Planet Snoopy, Will it be Done Opening Day?

Don't worry about Planet Snoopy not opening on time. Here is something I was told by Bill Davis CEO Universal Studios about The Simpsons project "we don't look at it as 10 8 hour days from opening we look at it as 10 24 hour days from opening." Not saying that The Simpsons open in 10 days. :-) Cedar Point is really good about opening projects on time. Maverick was not by fault of CP.
