Re: just wondering about room mates?
Yeah, if it's at all possible for you to arrange to room with people you know, do it. I got relatively lucky my first year, but my second year kinda sucked until things finally settled down and I had my final "set" of roommates. Of course, by that point it had been arranged, haha. I'd never go back to having randoms, though, there's just too many people with too many..."eccentricities"...to make me want to go through that again. There are other, better ways of meeting new people than having to share a tiny space with them. For what it's worth, I say roomming with people you've only met over the internet is only marginally better than roomming with strangers, but that's just my opinion (I'm picky about roommates, though).
Don't freak out about it completely, though, if you can't find someone to live with in advance. One good thing I can say for CP Housing is that they are very flexible with allowing people to move around. So once you've met your crew and some other people (and I guarantee that there will be plenty of people who will be looking for roommates), you can easily move.
One of the big reasons that I'm choosy about roommates is that for a lot of situations, you can be held responsible for things done in your room by your roommates. This is true even if you technically had nothing to do with it (this is especially applicable in terms of drinking and/or drug use). I'm not trying to be a wet blanket or say never to drink or any of that crap, but it's something to remember, especially if your roommates' transgressions exceed an illicit bottle of Captain. It's something that doesn't get mentioned on here or at the park very often, but I've seen people fired for it. If you find yourself in that kind of situation, let your TL, Supervisor, or Manager know. They can get you moved quickly to get you out of it and avoid employment or legal trouble.
