Fun Facts

To help get through the offseason I thought it might be fun to have people put fun, stupid, or interesting facts about Cedar Point that not many people know about. Weird stuff that nobody else would think of.

This is just for fun so dont ruin it with your perverted statments like in the other topics lol.

I would start but I dont have any that you guys wouldnt already know so I will let someone else start.

Maxair looks scary at night when you ride the Giant wheel and see it from above. Especially when the ride is broken. (the spotlights are off)

There are only four roller coasters in the world that go above 300 feet in the air. Cedar Point is home to two of them. (Millennium Force, 310 feet; Top Thrill Dragster 420 feet)

Second oldest amusement park in the country. (2008 will be the 138th season)

Home to the tallest and fastest inverted roller coaster in the world. (Wicked Twister, 215 feet, 72mph)

There are over 2,000 trashcans spread across the park's midways and queues.

Over 3,000,000 people visit the park each season.

Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad is continually the most ridden ride in the entire park year after year. (1,676,661 rides in 2007)

Give me a few hours and I can come up with hundreds of others. There's a lot of unique and interesting things about the park that most people wouldn't really ever realize.

I should think it would be. Trains ride under the track, same as any other inverted. Just because it's a launched shuttle doesn't change that.

Thunder Canyon runs using pumped in Lake Erie water. It's not uncommon for a fish to find it's way into one of the tubs.

Mmmm! Be sure to open your mouth under those waterfalls!

Chuck Wagon is that really true!!!? If so that is crazy!! I have been to Cedar Point about 80 time s in my life and for some reason I have never ridden Thunder Canyon, line too long weather too cold, whatever. But now I will DEFINITELY NOT ride it. Can somebody back this up?

Note: anyone over the age of 25 probably knows all of this

For those of you too young to know, by Blue Streak you may wonder what the "cannons" are and interesting pseudo-pirate theming in the odd vacant-looking building adjacent to BS is. It was the old Pirate Ride, and apparantly there is a rule about cleaning up everything when you take out a ride. Just remove "most" and hope people dont notice.

Raptor sits where a second (at the time) log ride used to be; "Mill Race" was its name. Imagine CP with TWO log rides???

Gemini debuted as the highest, tallest, fastest, steel coaster in the world. Appropriate they built Magnum beside it years later so we could all look down on it and say "OMG...remember when that was as high as you could go?"

The Chuck Wagon restaraunt used to serve all its food on ancient-looking steel plates, giving it an authentic feel.

There used to be another Sky-ride lift station in Frontier Town.

When FT opened, the only way to get there was by train or Sky ride

The boat ride used to use authentic Steam Paddle boats! Very cool! And now, if you drive to CP via Port Clinton, you can see one of the boats "docked" at a marina (Im not sure of the name of the marina)

Where there is an ice show, there used to be a giant IMAX theatre. And before you got to go into the movie, you started in a "waiting area" and they had acts with animals; seals, etc.

Speaking of animals, a staple at CP used to be Jungle Larry! There were tigers at CP at one time.

When the ride designer of disaster transport approached Cedar Point, the park was told that this design would give a wilder ride than the Gemini. However, the prototype ride held only 5 people per car, sitting single file. Cedar Point responded that, with millions of guests each year, the ride capacity would need to be larger. The designer indicated that the cars could be made double-width, providing the same ride excitement. Well, as the opening approached, the wrong cars were sent -- they were only single width. The cars needed to be modified, thereby delaying the ride's opening. The modified cars did not move as well as expected. New cars were brought in for 1986, providing quite a bit of improvement, but the ride still did not live up to the designer's promises.

And

During the first year that the ride was enclosed, it had some amusing travel posters in the first queue area. For example, on a poster of Walt Disney World, a caption was stamped indicating, "The magic is gone." There was also a poster proclaiming, "Baden Baden, No No!"

Here's another one from Tour The Point about Space Spiral:

"In 1985, there were celebrations of "20 years of going up and down, without ever breaking down." Well, that was certainly an invitation for disaster. During that year, the always-reliable Space Spiral broke down constantly, including a ball-bearing failure that caused the ride to be stuck at the top for 4 days."
