Cedar Point's $5.2 million capital improvement package includes seven rides, PEANUTS-themed restaurant, and new BMX-style show.

Cedar Point Press Release

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Family fun will be “out of this world” at Cedar Point amusement park/resort in Sandusky, Ohio, when Planet Snoopy™ debuts this summer as the park’s newest children’s area. Featuring a PEANUTS™-themed environment, Planet Snoopy will spin into orbit at the former PEANUTS Playground.

Planet Snoopy will feature seven rides, including a mini-tea cup-style ride, miniature train, 4 x 4 trucks, a bouncing tower, spinning balloons, rocket ships and a crazy sub ride. Planet Snoopy will also feature games, themed décor showcasing Snoopy’s worldly travels and special live appearances by the PEANUTS characters. Planet Snoopy’s 1.25 acres will also feature a family center with changing stations and private areas to feed children in a quiet atmosphere.

“This is the tenth year of Snoopy here at Cedar Point and we’re extremely excited to offer our fourth children’s area for those who aren’t yet ready to ride the park’s bigger rides and coasters,” said John Hildebrandt, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “We’re known around the world for our roller coasters – but we’re also a destination for families looking for a wide range of thrills. Planet Snoopy will be a great start for the young thrill-seeker this summer.”

In addition to the attractions at Planet Snoopy, a new restaurant will satisfy the rumble in the tummy. Kids will be the boss at a new themed restaurant, which will feature a children-only menu. Parents don’t need to worry – there’s a small “adult-only” section on the menu just for them! The interior of the new restaurant will cater to the ultimate PEANUTS fan with graphics from the world-famous comic strip.

The terrestrial fun extends beyond Planet Snoopy next season with four new live shows. “Snoopy’s Big Bow Wow On Ice” will skate into the Good Time Theatre. Snoopy, along with 14 world-class skaters, will be featured in a brand-new ice skating extravaganza with amazing skating routines, familiar music and the fun and excitement of a summer party.

Next to Planet Snoopy, “All Wheels Extreme” is set to wow guests young and old in the former aquatic stadium. Skilled stunt bikers, skateboarders and rollerbladers will perform flips, tricks and unbelievable stunts in this high-energy BMX-style show.

In the Centennial Theatre, “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” will feature live singers and dancers in a spectacular stage show celebrating music of the ‘50s and ‘60s, while the Red Garter Saloon will showcase an all-new musical revue.

In addition to the new attractions, a two-year refurbishment at the Sandcastle Suites Hotel will be completed by this summer. The $3 million in renovations include an improved lobby and registration area, upgraded suites and rest rooms and newly decorated hallways. Last summer, the exterior of Sandcastle Suites was upgraded.

Located on the tip of the Cedar Point Peninsula, Sandcastle Suites has 187 guest suites, including three Grand Vista Suites that include an indoor Jacuzzi and a wraparound deck or patio. The hotel also includes an outdoor pool and whirlpool spa, tennis courts, a romantic gazebo, scenic boardwalk and shuttle service to the gates of the park.

Including Planet Snoopy, the park will spend approximately $5.2 million in capital improvements for the 2008 season.

Cedar Point will open for its 139th summer on Saturday, May 10. For a complete operating calendar and more information on what’s new for 2008, log on to cedarpoint.com or call 419.627.2350.

Any idea's how they're going to fit all this into the dolphin stadium? Half-pipes in the tank??

Are the majority of those rides just being relocated from other parts of the park? Or are those duplicate rides from Geauga Lake and now they have two versions at Cp?

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

As a parent I applaud the efforts to refocus on the little ones. It looks like it will be a very "fun" area for them...and the "kid's" restaurant is going to be a hit...mark my words.

I wonder what the future holds for Kiddy Kingdom. It would be a great turn-around area for an out-n-back L shaped, beachside woodie. Not that I'm advocating the elimination of a kids area.

That place is a bit "out of the way". It is tucked in behind the arcade and store. I assume they will have some great signange to point folks in the right direction.

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

Hey, what a novel idea, they are putting something that doesn't use the dive tank in that staduim. I thought that everyone said it couldn't be done. *sarcasm*

Any idea's how they're going to fit all this into the dolphin stadium? Half-pipes in the tank??

My guess would be that the easiest way to do that would be to extend the back end of the stadium "stage" a little bit into the Wicked Twister queue. That part of the queue rarely gets used anyway, so why not build over it?

I think Planet Snoopy will be great for the families. The kids aren't going to care or notice that several of the rides are elsewhere in the park. It really brings back the kid focus that everyone complains the park is lacking. And most likely, gives them an excuse to raise the price of the Junior/Senior ticket by a few bucks....

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

You all do realize that everyone of those "beeping" rides in Kiddy Kingdom just spin in a circle, don't you? My kid lines up for EVERY one of them.

Kids don't care.

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

Kids don't care, but I think it is time for Kiddy Kingdom to go if they don't update it within the next two seasons. The carousel would be a shame to lose, but its definitely showing signs of neglect, and the only other thing that was worth keeping now has a duplicate ride (the 4x4s) on the other side of the Coliseum. Not to mention the lack of all that beeping would be a welcome change for some of us and our dreams.

As for Planet Snoopy, the art looks cool and I hope it ends up close to that. I really like the entrance plaza look in the concept. I'm also excited about the new shows, but I don't have time to say much more at the moment.

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

Based on the rendering, it looks like they are just transplanting Kidworks to Cedar Point, minus the "Foam Factory" and Rocket Sled Ride.

However, it looks like these rides may once again get some theming.

My niece seemed to have fun on some of these rides at GL (which I assume is where they are from), so this is sure to be a nice addition to the park. I just wish they would have somehow squeezed in BLMR. That was a great coaster that both kids and adults could enjoy! I also would have liked to see the "Foam Factory" come to Cedar Point.

Nice to see that she will be able to enjoy some of these rides again, even though they are going to be in a new location.

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

I'm surprized they didn't add a kiddie coaster over here. They have 2 kids areas in the back, each having their own coaster, and up front, they now have 2 kids areas, but neither one of them has a coaster. I'm looking forward to taking by 3 year old there this year. I think he will really like the 4x4's and the BMX show. My wife will like the feeding station for our 1 year old and the restaurant for kids sounds like an innovative idea too.

I do agree they need to do something with Kiddie Kingdom. Ever since Kid Aurthor's Court was removed, it hasn't been the same.

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

It seems strange to think the park will have a whooping 75 rides now. Almost half of those being for kids only.

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

I don' think you can simply replace Kiddie Kingdom with Planet Snoopy. Not enough rides in Snoopy. The sheer number of rides is one really nice thing about Kiddie Kingdom. I know to an adult all of the rides are the same, but to the small kids they are all different. But if they relocated the rides to another location in the park that would be a different story.

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

I am having a bit of trouble understanding how $5.2 Million equates to what has been announced. Especially, if some of these items are relocated and are not brand new.

And people complain that there aren't enough kids rides.

They are rides from Geauga Lake. Here are the original names matched up with the descriptions that are in the news release.

Half Pint Railway - miniature train

Hot Air Express - spinning baloons

Dippy Divers - sub ride

Mad Mad Whirl - mini tea cups

Road Rally - 4x4 trucks

Rocket Relay - rocket ships

Tree Hopper - bouncing tower

I belive this will give CP 74 rides, not 75. Don't forget, they took out Peanuts Express.

Well on busy days and after the begining of June through closing weekend we usually use those back queue's daily.

I love the look of Planet Snoopy. It has such an open feel to the whole area.

YAY for kids and families! Though, mine have out grown this addition, I'm very pleased with CP for adding more for families. The youngest and I will probably hit the new restaurant though, sounds fun! The BMX show will be a big hit with my boys and I'm glad they have a new snoopy ice show, we loved the old one, but needed a change.

I believe it is 75. It was 69 in 2007, minus PEANUTS Express equals 68, plus 7 from Planet Snoopy gives you 75.

Re: Planet Snoopy highlights new attractions for 2008 season

This is such a wonderful addition, and I myself can't wait to see the stunt show, time to test some new camera equipment.

However, this is seriously going to overshadow Kiddy Kingdom, something needs to be done with that area, and hopefully, is in the works since the whole Oceana area seems to be undergoing a much needed revamp.

The theming looks great, lets hope they try to spruce up the stadium a little too, this whole area is going to really open up, and I'm glad to see that finally happen.

No more "where's Peanuts Playground?"

Edit: I did notice though that these rides copy most of whats over in Camp Snoopy...not that little ones care...just something I noticed.

I hope the foam factory shows up somewhere. It was fun shooting those foam balls at my 10 year old son (plus some innocent bystanders :-) )
