Out of curiosity (since I have no kids), aren't playgrounds good to "absorb excess energy" from the kids during a day at the park? It would seem to me that having a kid running around a playground, digging in the sand, going down slides and being active would wear kids out way more than just sitting on a ride. Not to mention, it's better for them to be active than just sit on a ride. Actually, with all the noise and flashing lights on the current kiddie rides, it seems the "normal" kid sections just excite kids more and make them irritable come the end of the day (or lunch for some kids).
Was the playground "lame" for kids? Did they not like it? I know when I was growing up, I loved playground with slides and swings and anything else that involved activity. I also know when I go to WDW with my nephews, they totally eat up the playground sections like Pooh's whatever it is at Magic Kingdom, the Dino Dig area at Animal Kingdom and Honey I Shrunk the Kids at the Studios. I know they hate waiting in lines which rides tend to have.
Granted I know nothing about this new kid's section except it will most likely involve some rides from GL, on the surface it looks like a loss of a unique section of the park for the addition of a "newer" version of two sections they already have.
What do the parents on here think?
(PS: I'm not saying it sucks because it's not a new coaster for me. I'm really curious as to what parents think.)
