I live in Toronto, Canada, and it's one of my long-time dreams to be a ride operator (particularly on Millennium Force). I'm very enthusiastic and work well on a team, and love being at Cedar Point...

I know that you have to be a university student to work on a ride, but do you have to be American? (i am going to York University and graduating in 2013 but I have my sight set on operating at C.P. regardless of the pay.)

You do not have to be an American to work on a ride. I don't even think you have to be a college student to be honest, although the majority of them are.

There's a cutie who's a ride op on TTD, and her name tag says United Kingdom with no mention of a school (not necessarily meaning she's not), but there ya go...

You don't need to be American, nor a college student. You just need to be at least 18 years old (not sure how many that is in Canadian ). Most of the demographics of CP employees are college students, though. Very different at Disney!

Oh wow this is all great news for me! I require a student's visa or something of the sort though, right?

edit: i believe there is a "SWAP" program for canadian students? has anyone used this? *** Edited 8/6/2007 3:06:18 PM UTC by cpthomasf91***

You'll need to be able to legally work in the US.

One key ride host "ingredient" that has not been mentioned, is that you must be able to speak English well. You need to be able to communicate instructions to the guests.

CP has a very extensive program to bring people from other countries in to work for the summer. I'm pretty sure they'll help to set you up with a work visa and everything else that you need.

I went to Cedar Point 2 days recently. There was a ride op with an accent (I don't remember what kind of accent, and I didn't look at her tag) working Wicked Twister and the ride op on Mantis was from Turkey I believe. So i'd say... no.

The op at Twister was probably Ecuadorian as we had a few Ecuadorians on our crew this year...and I miss them so much

Ah yes! I miss hearing "loose fit shoes" instead of loose fitting shoes. And don't forget "speeriling towers" instead of spiriling towers.

Last summer we had a guy from Scotland, a girl form Columbia and a girl from Lithuania on my crew. And the year before that we had a Russian on the crew, he was the coolest guy ever. I'm hoping that since you live in Toronto you speak english, because that is a requirement for working at CP, in any department. But just apply for rides and you might get a coaster, you might get a flat, you may get Kiddie Kingdom, it all depends on where they send you.

I worked with ride ops from Turkey, Twain, Macedonia, Poland, United Kingdom, Ecuador, Canada, Slovakia, and Ohio.

If you can speak/read english, you can operate a ride.

^^ - if you asked half the country during the last election, they'd probably say Ohioans are UN-American.
