For spieling do ride ops switch off doing the spieling and for spielers how hard was it to memorize what you had to say.

Yes, the idea is to rotate every half hour, although that sometimes doesn't happen when staffing is short and people come back late from breaks.

It's not hard to memorize the spiels, but I was really nervous and really terrible on spiels for the first couple times (and every time after that depending on who you ask). Unfortunately, for about half of my Cedar Point career, Magnum had an auto-spiel. Man am I glad that's gone. I wanted to cry the day that thing showed up.

It depends on the length of the spiel. The guys/gals on the river cruise probably have the most difficult spiel to learn.

I worked the Jungle Cruise at WDW. We had 3 days of Disney University Training, 3 days of ride training/spiel memorization and then we had to be tested by a supervisor before being given the go-ahead. If, by the end of the first week, you didn't pass the test then you would most likely be placed on another ride assignment.

The Jungle Cruise spiel was 10-13 minutes long and had lots of SOP variations. Back when I was working there we had some flexibilty about coming up with our own jokes. Since that time they have become more strict about staying on the SOP.

I think in 1999 when Space Spiral had their spiel was a hard one too. That was a lot of information which I think they now they have that on auto-speil.

If you know and love the coaster you are working on, it is an enjoyable job. You get to come up with one liners and get the guests excited about riding the ride. I enjoyed spieling Raptor, to this day people ask me to do my Raptor spiel and I can still run through it.

Please step into your assigned go-kart, pull the shoulder harness over your head onto to both shoulders and connect it to the buckle between your legs. For a proper fit the shoulder harness straps are adjustable. If you need assistance, please raise your hand and a ride host will assist you. The pedal on the right is the gas, the pedal on the left is the brake. Please do not step on the gas pedal until you are instructed to do so. While on the course, please do not bump or ram the go-karts. Bumping, ramming, and reckless driving will result in your immediate removal from the ride with no refund. Those riders with a two-consecutive ride ticket, please remain seated after returning to the station and hold up that 2nd ticket for the ride host to collect. While on the course, please observe and obey the traffic signal lights. When the light is green you may go, when the light is yellow, slow down and carefully return to the station, and when the light is red stop your go-karts immediately by pressing the brake pedal on your left and wait for instructions from a ride host. My roommates informed me the other night I was talking in my sleep saying "Your harnesses have been released on purpose. Now they are locked, ride hosts, re-check all harnesses." No joke. I woke up because they were laughing so hard.

When I first was hired, spieling was one thing I, for some reason, was rather excited about. Come to find out, it's not as easy as it looks your first time. At first I couldn't spiel and check restraints at the same time. So, I would do one the other. Over time, however, you start to come up with sentences, phrases, and word combinations that work the best, sound the best, and are easily understood by guests and spoken by yourself. I would add and try to memorize a new portion of my spiel each day until I finally reached the spiel I use today. Once you find "your spiel," it's really not bad at all, and can be a lot of fun.

I memorized the spiel for TTD while waiting in line this year. It was opening week and the ride op didnt know it that well so she was reading it from a paper. Its fun spieling even if you dont work there.

It wasn't too hard to memorize the spiel for Corkscrew. It was your standard spiel except for asking people to quickly (but carefully) walk through the airgates. Also, telling guests that the should harnesses would fall down.

This of course was back in the days when there was a spieler in the Unload 1 position and before the second half of the Summer where the auto-spiel was installed.

I think I've done admissions in my sleep before too. I once woke up and found myself trying to give the wall an exit stamp.

All right, I may be the only one, but I really miss the auto-spiel on the newer rides. I think that the ride ops do a great job, but the music/auto spiel really added the the excitement of the rides!!

Cedar Point - An adventure waiting for everyone.

On some of the big rides such as WT, TTD and MF the taped spiel somehow added to the rides atmosphere.But at least they kept the music.

101 on Magnum and counting...

I worked at Paddlewheel Excursions for 2 years, and like the Jungle Cruise you have to be certified by a member of management after learning your spiel. But unlike them.... we also had to learn how to drive those boats while doing it, because contrary to popular belief... those boats a NOT on a track. So you needed to learn the 7-10 minute spiel, plus not crash while doing it. Thats what makes it unique from other rides at CP... it actually takes skill rather than just being able to follow directions from a manual. Its definitely interesting!

Not knocking Jungle Cruise though... I went last year and appreciated more than the normal guest would... I was so giddy!

Spieling can be a lot of fun, but it really depends on the crowds that day. Sometimes the crowds are boring and you get bored and so do your spiels, but some days the guests are all peppy and you end up being peppy too. It's fun. Once you learn your spiels, you NEVER forget it. I'll still be able to bust any of my spiels out when I'm 50-60.

Probably the best thing about spiels though, is the fact that everyone says the same info but everyone has their own style.
