What is a trimless ride?

Hey,

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is a trimless ride? I have seen people talk about it during ERT and special times. On Gemeni, in the station, there is a little white box that says "Track trim brakes open" that looks like it could light up sometime...is this applicable?

Trim brakes are usually a few brakes along the rides course added to help maintain a good speed (mid course brakes and the final brakes aren't trim brakes). Sometimes if a train is sent out on a cold day, or with less passengers, or something similar, trim brakes aren't needed as the train is already going slower than normal. When these trim brakes are off it is called a "trimless ride".

Magnum has trims in the pretzel turn, Mean Streak and Mantis have trims on their drops, Maverick has trims after you come out of the tunnel and are at the top of the hill before you dive down. They are generally noticable when riding. I've been on Mean Streak in the front seat and it feels like you're hanging there for a couple of seconds before the ride gets started. When those brakes are not on, the ride will be a lot better.

Although MCBRs (Mid-Course Brake Runs) can be used as trim brakes (ex Mean Streak). However they are also an additional block to the system and a train could be stopped there and still make it through the remainder of the course and back to the station.

Yeah, I've been on plenty of coasters that use MCBRs as trim brakes. Most recently, Medusa and Nitro come to mind. Doesn't Raptor sometimes use the MCBR as a trim brake?

Yeah, just about every time I've been on Raptor, the midcourse was used as a trim, but it only takes a little bit of speed off. As far as the track trim lights on Gemini, if they are on it means that the brakes before the last turn around and before the helix are open.

Ahhhh....there's nothing quite like a trimless, night-time ride on Magnum....

In all my years of going to CP I have never had a trimless ride on Magnum. I'm sure the ride is alot better in everyway with them off though.

Yes, that is the most noticeable one anyway. The last time I was there I rode it at about 9:30 at night and we didn't slow one bit for that part.

Yesterday I had a trimmless ride in the ejector seat. It was nice.

Magnum is my #1 steel if it's trimless. Like my buddy says - it's all about the triangular bunny hops.
