With the new addition of Maverick this year I was thinking...

Cedar Point has seemed to be getting rid of the family rides lately and putting in other kinds. I know they have to do this because they are mainly aiming at teens (I guess) and they have to keep up with the times.

But I was wondering if anyone else misses WWL? It was a good ride with short lines. And if it was a hot day and you didn't go to Soak City or wanted to go on Snake River Falls or Thunder Canyon, you could go on WWL and just get a little wet, you know?

Now I'm not complaining. I love Maverick! But I miss WWL too. Any thoughts?

I dont miss it. Nobody will after 2009 anyways after the put in that new water ride in Aqua stadium's place.

Im just guessing about that but thats what I think they are going to put in. I would really like a woodie over there but CP never listens to me.

Yes I miss it. It was the only water ride you could go on and not get completely soaked.

I don't miss it. I might be the only one who says that, but Maverick really looks good where it's at and makes that area really look good.

Does Maverick rock? Of course. The removal of WWL, however, left a huge void in the ride line-up. I thought long and hard and still can't think of many major theme parks that don't have some form of a log flume ride.

I do miss a log ride that doesn't soak you. It was nice to wind through the trees on a hot day too.

Back in the day they used to have that flume that went out into the lake. How awesome would that be?

I must say I do miss WWL. It was nice to be able to hop on a water ride but not get drenched therefore necessitating an unbelievably hot day or a change of clothes nearby. The lack of WWL really created a void in my opinion.

While I'm happy about the addition of Maverick I do miss the park not having a log flume. It's hard to beleive for one year they actually had 4 water rides including two log flumes(1993).

Should they decide to build a new log flume might I suggest building one without a height requirement (except for hand-held infants) so that the entire family can ride?

I agree that White Water Landing is a missed ride. I very much enjoyed riding Maverick this last weekend, but the park really does need a water ride that the whole family can enjoy and not get soaked on. I have heard a lot of people say how Cedar Point is not longer a place to take kids to. While I don't necessarily agree with that, the removal of rides like WWL does add to the perception.

Maverick is definately not a family ride. It is an intense roller coaster experience. As we all know, it now has one of the higher height requirements in the park.

Maverick looks great where it is, but the park does need a new log flume. Actually, I think that the park could do well by adding a package of family friendly flat rides and a water flume. That would be a great thing to do with the stadium and Disaster Transport area.

As much as I love Maverick, it's hard to believe the #1 Amusement Park in the Known Universe (37 Millenia In a Row!) doesn't have a traditional flume ride. I too would like to see a water ride back in the park that doesn't soak you.

As far as HeyIsntThatRob's idea, I suspect it would be difficult to build a log ride with less than a 36 or 42 inch height requirement. For starters, you'd probably have to eliminate any major flumes. You'd also probably have to install seat belts or other types of restraints, just to keep the ride manufacturers and insurers happy.

I personally would ride any flume ride CP chose to put in, whether there was an actual 'flume' or not. I wouldn't mind seeing something like Sir Rub-a-dub Tub, but a little bigger, a little faster, and themed for the whole family. But then I like Disaster Transport.

I think Ensign was thinking more along the lines of the "Its a Small World" boat ride. Something where you aren't getting all that wet, but a nice little "voyage" through a themed area.

As much as I love coasters and thrill rides, I really wish, and hope, that CP will start thinking about the family again. As said above, I've heard quite a few people who comment on how CP is no longer a place for people who don't like coasters, or kids too small to ride the big ones, to go. I also don't necessarily agree to this, but I think there is some validity to this point. WWL was probably one of the best family rides they had. It was thrilling enough for coaster lovers to ride it, and yet I knew many people who hated coasters and still loved WWL. A cheap flat just really can't compare to it, and I think families notice that too.

I understand that CP's niche is the thrills, but as SFMM shows, you can't just focus on the one side. Even the removal of the diving show worries me. Again, I know quite a bit of people that really enjoyed that show, and are disappointed by another "family attraction" removal.

I sincerely hope that the next major ride CP puts in is something that truly caters to the family. I would never recommend a non-coaster lover to ride Maverick. Its definitely not a family ride. CP desperately needs an expensive, long, and quality family attraction. Whether that be another log ride, dark ride, or something else entirely.

Maybe they should take some knowledge from Knott's about highly themed flumes and build something like that? It was closed when I was there, but I hear it's pretty effing sweet.

It is pretty awesome. The themeing is great. And people love it. When I went with my family years ago they wanted to ride it 3 or 4 times. Something like that would be perfect for CP.

I think one of the things that made WWL so good is the scenery and theming. I just don't think it would be the same put somewhere else.

^^^^^ Well, take out the waterfalls and it would work for me. Although, as Top Thrill 182 suggested, something along the lines of "It's A Small World" or "Enchanted Voyage" would be swell. (For a look at what can be done with a dark boat ride on a limited budget, check out Garfield's Nightmare at Kennywood.)

I remember the old Kenton's Keelhaul Canal at Kings Island, which I believe was higher than WWL. It wasn't the huge drop at the end that I savored, but the leisurely trip through the treetops, relaxing and feeling the upper breezes.
