After some time Cedar Point has posted a POV of Maverick to view it you can either visit ExtraPoint! on Cedar Point or take this hyperlink.

Nice video. The point of notice for me is the lateral vibrations after the second hill.

June 19, 2007, 1:07A

Finally. It seems like it took forever.

Something about this POV seemed odd to me, and I'm not sure why.

No major trips planned for the '07 season.
Beach instead.

If you have been on the ride what would seem odd would be the tunnel being pitch black and the lights being a little soft and not very bright.

Sweet!! Now all I have to do is wait two more months to be able to ride it.

It's too bad they didn't pick a different time of day to film this. The angle of the sun isn't really doing much for the quality. Although, they only have first thing in the morning or at night to film it since the park is open now. Even still, I'm glad we even have one. Most parks don't even do that.

I think the lateral vibrations that "Jump" referenced are possibly from the cameral mount. The whole POV has a bit of a lateral shuffle... even on parts of the ride that are completely smooth (lift hill). I love the POV though. Im glad that most POV's are done from an angle that a person would actually see the ride from. Corkscrew and Magnum's POV's are almost down in the track it seems.

NICE - Long time coming, well worth the wait!!

For me, the video isn't odd, but just "off"? IMO, it doesn't convey the sheer intensity of the ride that I experienced last week? Maybe it's the video's smooth transitions between elements - During my four (4) rides last week, the trains whipped through them, with the last half of the ride a complete blurr. The tunnel lighting in the video was excellent - much better than what I saw during my night rides. And, at the top of the hill after the launch, the video just doesn't convey how much the train slows down (most disapointing part of the ride for me).

With all that said, Maverick is my favorite ride at CP and my third favorite coaster in the world, right behind RoS at SFNE and El Torro.

I love smooth coasters with massive ejector air.

Wow, you rank Maverick over RoS and El Toro? That's interesting to hear. I just got back from both those parks and those two rides jumped right to the front of my list. They are most definitely two of the best rides I've ever been on in my life. If Maverick is better than both of those, I'll be VERY impressed.

June 19, 2007, 10:14A

Tim, he said it was his third favorite in the world... behind El Toro and RoS. I really need to get out on the east coast to ride those...

Oh. Whoops. I see that now - my bad. I was wondering how Maverick could be better than those two beasts.

June 19, 2007, 10:44A

Great POV. As Halltd mentioned, it's great that CP actually does this for their coasters so guests can see what they're in for

And Josh, yes...you need to get your butt on El Toro. It's an incredible experience.

Am I the only one who finds POV generally boring?

It's nice to have them, but they are no substitute for the ride, and they always seem much slower than the ride is in reality.

...and don't they give you a little extra income from time to time?

(If you still ended up doing the POV for Maverick)

It is fine However, it does NOTHING for the actual ride. I rode it for the first and second time on friday. This is the first coaster I have been on that seems so fast that it does not feel like the train in on the rails. Even when you watch it. The train just flies through the track. I did notice the theming after the first airtime hill is not there like on the computer animation. The stone work around the corner before the inversions.
I think Maverick is the Cedar Points Voyage.......Nutty rides. hehe

June 19, 2007, 11:04A

It's no more boring than any of the other POVs. Like Josh said, they never seem to really give a perfect sense of a ride's experience. But, they are nice to get a feel for the layout, scenery, etc...

June 19, 2007, 11:37A

im kinda wondering why they put it on youtube and not had it hosted on their site like the rest of the videos.

June 19, 2007, 11:59A

It's on their site too.

June 19, 2007, 2:10P

Exactly, all POV is boring. I've yet to see even one example that captures the true spirit of any ride.

I've found it works better if you prepare yourself by making home made cheese on a stick, put on your fanny pack, have a big fan blowing on you, and watch it on a massive HD plasma while acting out the motions of the ride in one of those surround sound video game rocking chairs... it r0x0rz! This effect can be enhanced if someone has collected a bucket of mayflies, and pours them into the fan at a random point in the ride.

In all seriousness...

I guess my expectations have never been super high for POV... I just like how it gives me a general idea of the ride. It also helps for showing people who are afraid of the ride, to give them a general idea of what it does.

It's interesting that nobody mentioned they posted a new blog at midnight last night. Those guys were certainly working late.

I guess the POV's are nice in the off-season or if you can't get to the park, but other than that, they aren't usually all that exciting. I'd much rather be riding for real.
