Well, I have a friend who work(ed) at Cedar Point for all of 5 days. I just got a phone call from him that he got fired for a safety violation. I feel bad for him, but at the same time it does show that CP is very strict about maintaining a safe environment for it's employees and guests. WARNING TO ALL CURRENT EMPLOYEES: Be alert at all times. Do not turn your back to the ride while it is in operation. Learn the safety regulations for your ride/attraction/store etc. and follow them the best you can.

I saw an employee this past weekend holding up her clear on Wicked Twister while watching what was going on out on the midway... Even as the train was launching and cycling she only once glanced at the train for a second... If the wrong person catches you doing something like that, you can expect a visit to Park Op after close.

There was more than one time this weekend that my seat belt was never checked. If I remember correctly it was Blue Streak and Magnum.

Damn, that didn't take long. Guess he didn't get a "get out of a write up" card.

As rotten as it would be to be fired, I'm glad that Cedar Point takes safety so seriously. I've never felt unsafe while there, which is a vast contrast to Six Flags.

I feel for him, but as a consumer of roller coasters, it's comforting.

Ride on.

Honestly, I think a warning would do. With a job like Cedar Point, where people come from all over to work for the summer (I'm driving 7.5 hours in June) how frustrating is it to make such a simple mistake and lose your job.

I'm sure it was unintentional and it could have been MUCH worse of am mistake. A simple "next time you're fired" would have been more than adequate.

That sucks. It must have been a pretty big mistake to get fired when the park has only been open for 4 days now.

^^I totally disagree with the "next time your fired" idea. This is safety we're talking about and the fact that CP's guests are to be "watched after" in regards to their personal safety. It would be different if they were working at a Wendy's and messed up an order. That's more than likely not going to effect someone's livelihood as opposed to whatever infraction the now-former employee has committed.

Let's just say my friend inadvertanly allowed a guest waiting in line to get too close the ride while it was in operation.

Well, that solidifies it for me. GONE

That's the thing...I totally agree with the punishment, but knowing how much I loved working there, and how much he was looking forward to a fun season, I really feel bad for him.

Sometimes, when an employee is fired early in the season, park management will allow the employee to transfer departments like to Food or Merchandise, but that wasn't given as an option. Oh well.

You don't get fired for just one thing - something else had to have happened before, and that put him over the top.

ouch. Well, CP does take safety very seriously. And thats the way it should be.

I agree with Kevin. Although sometimes CP is wildly inconsistent with enforcement of their own rules, I've never heard of someone getting fired for one instance of "letting someone get too close to the ride." Heck, on Magnum, you are probably hiding behind a pillar so what could you do to stop it anyway?

Miss a seatbelt or lapbar, you're going to generally get written up and this can happen up to three times (verbal, written, and final warnings) Termination is the fourth. There is a such thing as a two step write up where you get two or more of these steps at once, but I've never seen anyone get fired for one incident like you describe. Maybe you'd get fired for clearing a train with guest on the inside of the gates at Wicked Twister, but is anyone seriously dumb enough to allow that?

There's something more to this story...

As far as I know, his violation was allowing a guest too close to a ride-in-motion. I'm not sure if there is more to the story or not. But I have told you all he has told me.

Cedar Point is very strict on safety. When I worked there last season, I got two write ups, and a couple of Operationals. The ride...The Mantis. It's very easy to get write ups and operationals on that ride. And hey, I feel safe at Cedar Point. But the worker should have got a warning before he was let go. There is something fishy behind that story. Is Bob Wozniack still there?

Welcome to Mantis the only stand-up roller coaster in the state of Ohioer, this is not a sit-down roller coaster, if you want to sit down then their is the I-ron Dragon over to the left and across the midway is Milliunem Force.
