Does anyone know if there is employee housing in Hotel Breakers? I seem to vaguely remember there being housing there. I'm working at TGI Friday's on the Beach and it would be very convenient to live there. Thanks.

i know there is still housing in hotel breakers-i just don't know how you go about living in there, sorry i couldn't be of more help

I think those at TGI Fridays still have to stay in Commons or Cedars. Only those working in the hotel itself and not foods can stay in the older section of Breakers. This may have changed, but I do remember a Fridays server telling me this while I was there for dinner.

well i know that two of the area supervisor for foods lived there last year--but it might be reserved for areas of the hotel so servers and stuff would need to live in other housing

As of this year Breakers employees can no longer live in the hotel the rooms tha they have used in the past for the employees have been condemed. However up untill this year if you worked in Accomadations mostly Breakers you were allowed to live there.

I lived there in 2002 and 2004 and let me tell you that a good majority of the rooms there are very very old and you're better off living either off point or in gold/cedars, sad enought to say.

However the best part of living in the hotel was that you could get up in the morning and roll down to work all with in 10mins or less depending on how long it takes you to get ready in the morning. Also you're right there by the park and lake front witch was nice to lounge on after work or on your day off. The only down part to living on point is parking ban days and if you don't have a car it can be a pain too.

The Gold dorms are located right across from the Hotel Breakers, so they would be just about as convenient for you.

So, are the Rotunda rooms condemned? There are some rooms off the lower floors that are basically a room with no bathroom that often are given to Hotel Front Desk supervisors, night auditors, night bellmen, etc.

From what I've been told no hotel employee will be allowed to have housing in breakers this year. I've lived in both a room off the rotunda; wich was creepy and falling apart, and I lived in a room in the hallway above the front desk; wich that room was better than the rotunda room. I'm not a 100% sure if they are sutting down all hotel employee rooms or if it's just the rooms in the rotunda, which are the worst ones. The rooms in the hallway over the front desk have a bathroom in them and the rooms in the rotunda do not, you have a shared bathroom in the wings of the rotunda; one side is the mens and the other side is the womens.

, it is a shame to hear that any part of that beautiful historic hotel is becoming "condemned"...

I wonder if CP will do anything about this...

My Guess is that they'll do a refurbish on those rooms and make more rooms for guests.

not a surprise, some of those rooms were really bad and had water damage before the roof was replaced. I doubt they will do much about it unless they renovate them. Rotunda is a nice design and would be nicer if they did an overhaul of everything.

When I worked at the Breakers I had dreams of turning the Rotunda into some kind of guest rooms...or even a suite of some type. There are a few drawbacks.

One is the ugly fire escape outside the building. The second is the lack of an elevator. (It is five floors up to the top.) The third is the small rooms. But, there are lots of possibilities if they got creative and I think the room(s) could rival the large suites they have in the Tower or Breakers East. Maybe they could get really creative and install a "private" elevator.

Shhhh...don't tell anyone. Back in the day the housekeepers, at the end of the season, would pile up all the linens on the Rotunda floor until it was at least a floor to a floor and a half deep. Then, the more daring (read: stupid) ones would climb up to the fifth floor and then jump down into the mountain of linen. Another popular sport was linen chute diving. It is self explanatory.
